What I Dislike about Halloween:
Candy Corn: Hard pass. It’s basically wax covered in sugar pretending to be candy.
Inaccessible Houses: Nothing says “spooky” like realizing I can’t even get to the front door for trick-or-treating. If the house is up stairs, across gravel, or has narrow pathways, it’s a no-go.
“Disabled” Costumes: Seeing people dressed up with fake casts, bandages, scars, or pretending they have disabilities as part of their costume is incredibly offensive. It’s not “scary” or “fun.” It’s hurtful and reinforces harmful stereotypes. If you wouldn’t pretend to have another marginalized identity, don’t do it with disabilities either.
What I Like About Halloween:
50% Off Chocolate the Day After: The true holiday miracle. Wandering the candy aisles on November 1st is the highlight of my season. Nothing beats scoring your favorite treats at half the price!
Alt: Pumpkins crossing design with the caption: “You know what’s really scary?”
“Not knowing if you can get to where your candy is located from your wheelchair”
