I am excited about DyslexicU, Richard Branson’s most recent contribution to dyslexics. Right now, he’s starting small, but hopefully, this will grow into something big, bringing attention to the unique strengths and learning styles of people with dyslexia.
Five to ten % of the general population experience dyslexia. Dyslexia often goes undiagnosed during formative school years. It is frequently misunderstood and under-supported in both educational and workplace settings. Initiatives like DyslexicU could shift that narrative by focusing on strengths rather than deficits.
Branson started with entrepreneurship classes because approximately 35% of entrepreneurs and 40 % of self-made millionaires show signs of dyslexia.
https://www.theceomagazine.com/…/managem…/dyslexic-ceos/ This suggests that dyslexia may contribute to traits advantageous in entrepreneurship, such as problem-solving, innovative thinking, and the ability to navigate complex situations. It could also suggest that people with dyslexia are disadvantaged in traditional employment settings because of poor grades, lack of confidence, and differences in processing written information.
DyslexicU has the potential to be more than just an educational resource. Combined with Richard’s non-profit, madebydyslexia.org, the two are a platform for showcasing role models, sharing resources, and advocating for a more inclusive approach to learning. I hope DyslexicU will expand beyond the initial stages and expand into into providing additional courses, tangible tools, resources, and mentorship opportunities.
