Accessibility that is not Maintained is not Accessible

Accessibility that is not maintained is not accessible.

Accessibility that isn’t maintained is not accessibility at all. Building accessible systems is just the first step. It’s not enough to get something accessible; you have to keep it accessible.

If you don’t continue to review your websites, mobile apps, documents, and products when updates are made, your organization’s accessible product can quickly revert back into becoming a barrier. From broken alt text to updates that contain inaccessible color choices, neglecting accessibility makes things harder rather than easier for people with disabilities. Worse, it breaks the promise you implicitly made to people with disabilities when the accessible release went out. Regular audits and upkeep are essential to ensure everyone with disabilities can continue to access and use your services. Accessibility is a process and a program, not a one-time task.
